cityworksLosAngeles is a volunteer-based forum of members from the architecture and design community acting as a catalyst for real world solutions in Los Angeles.
In October 2002, a series of roundtable discussions held at the A+D Architecture and Design Museum > Los Angeles brought together a large group of people inspired by examples of successful school-based design/build studios such as that of Auburn University’s Rural Studio. The group’s discussions quickly blossomed to encompass a larger desire for constructive social engagement by architecture/design professionals, the building industry and students alike. These spirited discussions created the momentum for the formation of the forum currently known as cityworksLosAngeles. The forum is composed primarily of academics, design professionals, building industry representatives, and students who see a need for meaningful social action and share a desire to be responsible and active members of the Los Angeles community.
